By making a Will, you can control what is to happen to your assets, and who should inherit them, on your death. A person who dies leaving a Will is referred to as dying "testate". A person who dies without making a valid Will is referred to as dying "intestate".

Subject to certain provisions of the Succession Act, a person who leaves a valid will on death can decide, through the Will, how their property is to be distributed among beneficiaries. You appoint an Executor (or Executors) in the Will who will carry out your intentions and ensure that the various beneficiaries receive what is given to them in your Will.
